Jess Lee creates intimacy and warmth when her voice spills out in a room. Its rich depths are impossible to ignore and her songs allow any imagination to be inspired and awakened.
This soulful artist has grown up surrounding herself with vocal beauties such as Eva Cassidy, Jewel, Crystal Gale and Faith Hill, and these artists have obviously had the strongest influence on her writing styles and even the qualities of her voice. Her song-writing is also starting to reflect sounds from Vanessa Carlton and Norah Jones, Bethany Dillon and the pop ballads from the Dixie Chicks.
Making it to the top 50 in the 2004 Australian Idol was quite an eye opener for Jess and in 2005 she was thrilled to be flown to Adelaide to compete as part of the top five in the Glen Shorrock Music Awards. “Both experiences were quite a motivation booster for getting stuck into song-writing and experimenting with my voice. The support and sponsorship of the world-wide surf label RipCurl has certainly also been a driving force behind Jess’ excitement and tenacity in attempting to enter such a competitive industry.
Jess Lee has been gigging around Melbourne for the last five years in a duo with her brother, performing in bars and cafés, function centers and restaurants. The duo, "Esther’s Daydream”, provided an intimate mood for events, weddings, parties and bars, playing acoustic sets of Blues and Jazz, Funk, Pop and Indie. Jess used these opportunities to play her own compositions and watch how live performance developed them. She is now performing her own material around Melbourne with a guitarist and hopes to find places and people that identify with her writing and want to hear more!
